Keep Greenland a Secret

I came across the title of the book in an Air Greenland survey in which passengers were asked what they thought of Greenland. Someone had written down the phrase Keep Greenland a Secret and that, in my opinion, hit the paradoxical nail on the head. You would wish that this beautiful land, which has been tranquil and cold for centuries and has only a handful of inhabitants - who have become blended in with their land - could remain as it is.

But that is not the way the world works. Modern times are rapidly making their appearance through the climate crisis, Facebook, global economy and tourism, among other things. The title of the book should therefore also be interpreted as an appeal to treat this country and its inhabitants with care.

My photography is documentary and focuses on contemporary Greenland.

I do not focus specifically on the climate issue and the melting of the icecap, although those subjects are covered as well. I mainly try to sketch an image of the island, the landscape and its inhabitants. This is part 1, which in 180 photographs gives a depiction of the west and east of Greenland. The text of this second edition is in both English and Dutch.
